SEARCH FOR RHONDA (by her sister, Pattie)

When I lived in Wagga many years ago there was an article in the local paper regarding a local girl named Joy dying at age of 17 in Melbourne after a hole-in-the-heart operation. There was a photo of Joy, and I was told by my husband that she was my half-sister – my father’s daughter. A person I worked with commented how like me the photo was, without knowing the story.

I had the article for some time – but lost it in the move to Canberra the following year.

Ten years later I told my sister Anne the story when we were discussing Dad. I had forgotten Joy’s name at this stage. Anne and I decided that, as both our parents were now dead, we would like to find out some information about our half-sister, including when she died, to visit her grave to honour her memory, and to add her to our family tree.

Last year John and I went to the National Library and spent a morning searching through the microfiche records of the Daily Advertiser looking for the article on Joy, however we not only had the wrong dates, we had the wrong paper. We also did not know her name.

In April this year Anne and I devised a Public Notice which we put in the local Wagga newspaper for 3 days. The advertisement asked for any information on a daughter born to Edwin Albert Davey and gave the time period concerned. We also said that the child died of a hole in the heart condition.

Anne received a phone call from a lady called Rhonda who gave her information about Joy’s name and her death, and also told Anne that she (Rhonda) was also our half-sister. Anne found all the information too much to take in and didn’t realize for some time during the phone call that Rhonda was her half-sister as well as Joy. Rhonda’s mother was 6 and a half month’s pregnant with Rhonda when Dad died. We had no idea we had a live half-sister. We were very excited at the prospect.

Rhonda was born in Wagga 2 ½ months after Dad died, and was immediately adopted by a farming family. She was an only child to her adoptive parents. Rhonda found out she was adopted when she was 11 and when she confronted her mother about her adoption she was told that she had been adopted to look after them in their old age, and if she didn’t behave she would be sent back.

Her new parents were strict Lutherans and she grew up in their faith. She was not allowed to work before marriage (in case she met anyone outside the faith) and was told she had to marry a Lutheran boy who lived nearby so that Rhonda could look after her parents. Rhonda did marry a Lutheran boy who was a nearby farmer, and it has been a happy marriage. His name is Rod and they live on a farm about 20 km from Wagga. Her adoptive mother is now quite old and Rhonda visits her every afternoon and takes her to the farm every weekend.

Early Morning Tourneys

Hi Everyone – just a short note to let you all know that I am back on board and hosting.

I have tried to get the 5 am started but so far only one taker. I have tried for 6 am but again only one taker.

I really would like to get the early hours going again and I only need 4 players to run a tourney so if you’re up and about early or haven’t gone to bed please take time to play an early morning tourney.

I would really also appreciate anyone who is interested in playing the early hours to contact me ziasmum@gmail.com so that I can see if its possible to actually get the mornings going again.

Our Player in the Spotlight this month is one of our new admins – and tourney hostess extraordinaire - boo_berry_cake_on_acid – or Naked smoooocher or Trish.

She was born in Martinsville, Virginia on September 29th 1970 at 3:33pm, and now lives in Stone Creek, Ohio.

Trish first joined Mountain when it was in Etna in November 2001, but then withdrew and joined again in Advanced 10 in May, 2002.

Her favorite partner is anyone who will partner her, because everyone knows she sucks as bad as Sally – lol.

She hopes everyone is her friend on Mountain and she loves the league a lot.

Trish is disabled but sometimes she watches her nieces. Her real job is head td in Mountain Euchre where she loves to host (luckily for us all).

Trish lives with her Mom and Dad and little sister, Jayne and her two daughters, Josie and Candace. She has an older sister, Kay, and she and her two children, Kyle and Stephanee, live up the hill right behind her parent’s house. She also has a brother-in-law named Michael who lives in Australia (he married Kay last year) and a best friend, Paul, who lives in the Netherlands and who she calls bro, who she hopes someday will become her brother-in-law.

When Trish was 26 years old she was working the U2 concert in Oakland California. They stuck her at the VIP stage where you needed a pass. Well Trish and her partner Mike were making sure people had their passes and this guy comes up - omg he was huge - she had never seen anyone this tall or big before. He showed them his pass, but it didn't have the right dot on it and they had to tell him, no, he couldn't go up there. Now this guy was at least 6'10 and 380lbs, mostly muscles and Trish is 5’2’ and 245lbs and her partner was a beanpole, maybe 5"10 and 135lbs soppy wet, and they had to tell this guy - no. Uh huh - right - life flashes before her eyes and then her brilliant partner says let’s check with the U2 manager and see what he says. The manager comes up and says – yes, let the guy through don't you know who he is? She looked at her partner and her partner looks at her and they say no. Trish is sad to say she doesn’t know all her wrestlers like she used to. The guy’s name is Kevin Nash, known to the wrestling world as Big Sexy, and if anyone who knows who that is, well you wouldn’t want to say no to him! He bought Trish and her partner a drink and nachos - what a swell guy.

Trish has a dog named Gizmo who is a Shih tzu and a cat named Porkchop but there are 3 other dogs and 8 other cats that live there.

Trish likes to travel with her sister Kay and she particularly likes to go to live tourneys and meet people she has been playing euchre with online. She loves EBay, Amazon, Bath and Body Works, and Gamestop. She also loves to read and play video games, mostly role playing like Final Fantasy and Zelda. Her favorite singer is Billy Joel.

Trish has sent us a photo of herself with her niece, Candace, and a more recent photo of herself.

10 Easy Steps for the Perfect
Mother's Day Breakfast in Bed

Mother is a word that instills warm thoughts of a person who cares for you. Mother’s come in all different types, but almost everyone agrees that they love their mother’s unconditionally. This mother’s day, treat your mother by giving them the royal treatment of breakfast in bed.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Breakfast tray
  • Breakfast foods
  • Mother's Day flowers and gifts

Step 1
Decide what you will serve for mother’s day breakfast. Try to find out what her favorite breakfast foods are in the weeks before mother’s day. If she doesn’t like breakfast foods, consider making her favorite lunch or dinner meals instead.

Step 2
Once you have figured out what to serve on mother’s day, plan out what you will need to buy at the grocery store. Think about the kind of beverage, toasted breads and fruit you might want to serve with the main course. Does she like her eggs over-easy or perhaps scrambled hard? Then you should include that as part of your planning. You might consider taking something simple, such as pancakes, and giving it a special twist for mother’s day. Perhaps your mother has a favorite fruit, like strawberries or mangos, that you might be able to put into the pancake batter for an extra treat this mother’s day.

Step 3
While you are buying the food for the breakfast, also buy any flowers, gifts and cards you plan on giving your mother.

Step 4
When you arrive home with your purchases, make certain that your mother doesn’t find them. You want this to be a nice surprise in the morning for her. This might mean storing un-refrigerated food in your room or in a closet for a day. Make sure to store the refrigerated food in the refrigerator.

Step 5
The night before mother’s day, wrap any presents and arrange any flowers you might be giving her. If you are serving any fresh fruit, cut it up the night before, arrange it nicely on a plate.

Step 6
After she has gone to bed, have someone turn off her alarm so she won’t get up at her scheduled time.

Step 7
Make sure to set your alarm to get up at least an hour before she awakens. This way you can easily make her breakfast in plenty of time.

Step 8
On mother’s day, start brewing any coffee or tea she might like for breakfast. Pour any cold juice you plan on serving in a nice glass and store it in the refrigerator.

Step 9
Heat the oven to 200 degrees. Make the pancake batter and add any fruit to the batter that she likes. Following the directions for the pancake batter, make the pancakes. Once you have cooked a set of pancakes, place them on a plate and place them in the warm oven to keep them warm until you have finished everything.

Step10
If you plan on serving any eggs with the meal, start making them last before assembling the tray to take the breakfast in for your mother. At this point, your mother will probably be awake. Carefully carry the loaded breakfast tray into her room and tell her how grateful you are to have her as a mother.
