Ya know…
Worlds and folks we could have never known have been given to us with
this crazy thing called the internet. I thank God for the opportunity
to see into mankind farther than any generation has before.
With the recent loss of Pleasant_smile (aka A) and the tremendous
outpouring of hearts and testimonials of the many lives that
A has touched, I am reminded that this is so much more than
a game. It’s why we
often refer to Mountain as family.
Although our lives have ups and downs, laughter and sadness, we go
on each day making memories. I just want to state how thankful I
am that I found a group that shares so many of life’s riches in
something called… Mountain Euchre.

As always, a very special thank you to the awesome newsletter

Shadylady0 was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada on January
24, 1963.
She has lived in 4 different places. She grew up in Scarborough, Ontario and
was there until September 1985. She then moved into a house her grandmother
owned in Toronto and lived there with her future husband Peter (aka Blueknight1962)
for 5 years until December 1990. They decided to move out of the city to somewhere
they could have kids and raise them with no worries. They moved to a little
town outside Peterborough, Ontario called Cavan. They lived there for 8 years,
raising two kids. They then moved in May 1999 to Waubaushene, Ontario and have
been there for 7 1/2 yrs. They have 45 acres and it’s a great place to
raise kids, dogs and cats. The last move was due to a change in Peter's job
going from Metro Toronto Police to Ontario Provincial Police and much closer
to home.
She joined mountain around Sept/Oct 2004.
If she had to choose one person as a favorite partner, it would be Weaver
(Barb) but now that she is no longer in the league she will have to find a
new one. She likes to partner with Blueknight, but only at live tourneys.
When asked about her best friends in the league Shady said ‘This is
always a hard question cuz if you forget someone I will hear it....lol....but
my best friend on here is Weaver (Barb); Zythum (Chris) when she is on; and
Brown Eyed (Doris) as she and I joined mountain the same time. She also helped
me get to NUMBER 1 SPOT for the first time and I love having lunch with her
at Kelsey's in Newmarket ....we should do that again real soon .........lol......Hkvikes,
who is now my second husband; Dorisday - she is just the greatest person,
always a kind word and she reminds me of my mother and grandmother. There
are more but I don't want to miss any of them so let’s just say everybody
else’.
Shady has a degree in accounting and computers and worked up until she had
kids. At that time she decided it was more important to stay home and be the
stay-at-home mom while they are young - and it’s the best job in the
world if you can afford to stay home these days.
Her family is the most important thing in her life. There is her husband
Peter (Blueknight), their son Christopher who is 13 and their daughter Jennifer
10. Peter and Shady have been married for 20 years this past August and are
still as much in love as they were when they were first married. Peter and
Shady have been best friends for 40 years. Yes, they lived and grew up 5
houses apart from each other. Shady’s dad lived with them up until
about 6 months ago. He came to live with them when her mom died. Shady also
has five brothers.
Her kids keep her very busy with all the extra sports they do. Both of the
kids ride horses. Her son is in hockey and hopes to be in the NHL playing for
either Montreal Canadians or Tampa Bay Lightning. Her daughter is a figure
skater and would like someday to be in the Olympics. In the summer they both
play baseball. So she is mom's taxi most of the time. But she would never change
that and would never miss any of the things they do. Peter is a hockey goalie
and plays all year.
The most amusing story Shady can remember is the birth of her kids. It took
7 yrs to have her first child. When she went to the doctors to confirm that
she was pregnant the doctor gave them a date when they conceived. The day she
told them Peter was not home. In fact he was not home the whole weekend. He
was working nights and the only time they saw each other was in the morning
passing each other on an eight-lane highway, Shady going one way and him the
other way. She said ‘Impossible!’ - and no her son is not the milkman's
son. He looks and acts too much like his father....lol....... As for her daughter,
Shady was at a dog show and Peter was 1500 miles away on his way home. At the
dog show a tornado came through and Shady was hit by lightening and 9 months
later they had a baby girl. So if you ask Peter he will tell you that both
births of their children were by immaculate conception and that he and she
have never had sex. See she told you all she was a VIRGIN.
Peter and Shady have owned, raised and bred Labrador Retrievers for over
25 years under the kennel name Shadybrook Labradors. Peter bought Shady her
first Labrador in 1983. They have 45 acres for the dogs. At the moment they
have 11 dogs ranging from 14 years to 3 years old. They have bred, raised,
owned and shown some of the Top Labradors in Canada. They also have 5 cats.
Two cats live inside, Cassie 4 and Vincent 8 months. The kennel cats are
Smudge, Smokey and Angel. Shady started showing her labs in 1986 and then
started showing other people’s dogs. She spent most of the year showing
dogs, going to over 100 shows in Canada and some in the USA. She still does
it now, but just shows her own and sometimes for her friends. Now her kids
keep her weekends too busy to do it full time anymore.
Shady has sent some great photos of her family.

Boxty
(Potato Griddle Cakes)
Servings: 8
1/2 lb Raw potato
1/2 lb Mashed potato
1/2 lb Plain flour
Milk
1 Egg
Salt and pepper
Grate raw potatoes and mix with the cooked mashed potatoes. Add
salt, pepper and flour. Beat egg and add to mixture with just enough
milk to make a batter that will drop from a spoon. Drop by tablespoonfuls
onto a hot griddle or frying pan. Cook over a moderate heat for
3-4 minutes on each side. Serve with a tart apple sauce: or as
part of an Ulster Fry, with fried bacon, fried sausage, fried eggs,
fried black pudding, fried bread, fried soda bread.
An old poem says:
Boxty on the griddle,
boxty in the pan,
if you can't make boxty,
you'll never get a man.

For this months Pet of The Month Article, I have interviewed Bojo’s
pets, which are two dogs named CHEWBACCA and VADER.
Bojo’s dogs are both from the same litter and are labs, weighing 40-45
pounds each and are 7 years old. The names came because Chewbacca looks like
a chow and Vader is black. Bojo’s kids also, lovingly call Vader, Meathead.
Lol
Bojo got these pets through a neighbor who was trying to find homes for puppies.
Bojo and his family took the smallest ones. A third, they gave to their brother
in law. Huge and named Bear because of his size, he ended up being hit by a
tractor trailer and died.
Vader and Chewbacca eat kibbles and bits and any left over table scraps, especially
if left close to the edge of the table…lol. As a treat, they love milk
bones and beggin strips.
Chewbacca likes to fetch and throw things and play with stuffed animals. Vader
is the lazy one of the family and as Bojo says, “Is like the Dukes of
Hazard dog, he will just lay around a lot.”
Bojo says Vader is “gay” and Chewbacca is “straight” based
on their behaviors.
Both love chasing squirrels around the back yard or any other animal that happens
to cross their paths. In the winter, they both eat snow and will play in it,
roll around in it and jump in it.
When they want to go outside, they will put a stuffed animal in their mouths
and put their paws on the radiator next to the door as a signal to open the
door for them to go outside.
When asked why his pets are so special, Bojo said that they are great dogs
for telling the family when someone is around or near the house. Also because
they are such loving dogs.
Thank you for a nice pet story, bojo!!! |
