Our Player in the Spotlight this month is our oldest member (I believe) the very popular Doris Day. Doris was born in Monrovia, Ind. on 10 April 1931, so she is 76 this April. She now lives in Indianapolis, Ind.

Doris joined Mountain Euchre on 21 April 2001 – she says her favorite partners and friends on the mountain are everyone and I am sure that is true.

Doris is now retired, but she was assistant manager of office services for United Tech.

Doris and her husband, John, have been married for 59 years. They have two daughters, Margie and Sherie, a son, Michael and has four grandchildren, two boys and two girls, and 12 great grandchildren – 9 girls and 2 boys.

Doris has met funmomma, funpoppa, alan, tori and Sheila and loves meeting the mountain people.

Apart from euchre, Doris used to dance a lot, and she loves to gamble. Her family takes up much of her time so she never has had time for many hobbies. However she loves the classics, opera, plays, ballet, etc.

When Doris was younger she did a few commercials for radios and beer. She worked at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 10 years and met several famous people – she got to know and became very friendly with James Garner, Richard Burton and Bob Wagner, but thought Paul Newman was kind of snobby. There were lots of other she met too, but they are the ones she remembers most.

Doris has one female dog, a Shih Tzu female, named Trixie and she is wonderful.

This months Pet Article features my pet, Miloh, who is much too special to not feature.

Miloh is a yellow/orange, tabby cat. He is 16 years old. (which is scary to me). I got Miloh for a birthday present for my son, Jason. Miloh was approx, 5 weeks old when I got him. My son loved cats and he loved Miloh. I got Miloh from an adopt-a-pet-shelter. I went there looking for that “perfect” kitten for my son for his birthday. When I arrived, cats were jumping all over the place and were wild. In the corner sat “Miloh,” a sweet, tiny kitten with the biggest eyes you have ever seen. He was so adorable! And so tiny! He fit in the palm of my hand. He was the runt of the litter and his mother tossed him out of the group, refusing to feed or care for him. Another cat, an older cat, was able to produce milk and took Miloh under her wings….until I came along.

The vet said he would not get over 1-2 pounds. Well, Miloh is 16 pounds now and HUGE. He is the lion of our home and prances around like he owns the place.

Miloh loves Meow Mix and cat treats. He likes white fish and bacon and likes to get some “people” food but rarely eats it.

My son trained him very well. Miloh will not jump on any furniture or anything without permission. He will bump his head on the couch or just “ask” if he can sit beside you. I have to pat the spot and say “come on” or he won’t hop up.

If I am sick, Miloh will not leave my side until I am 100% well.

Miloh is a talking cat. He freaks people out because he actually talks. He says “Hi, mom,” and other things that are clearly heard. He talks a lot at night, which freaks out the people who stay here….lol.
Miloh loves to be petted on his head and under his chin. But don’t go near his behind or he will “bite” you. He will bite but not sink teeth in….just a warning! Lol

Miloh is the sweetest cat I have ever known. He is definitely a part of me. I hope he is around for a very long time. He is the last living thing I have left of my son. I am bonded with Miloh through Jason.
